How the 2026 Canadian salary calculator works
The calculator applies the 2026 federal tax brackets and the selected province’s progressive tax brackets. It then estimates basic personal tax credits, employee CPP contributions and CPP2, or QPP and QPP2 in Quebec, plus EI and Quebec’s QPIP premium.
2026 CPP and EI assumptions
- CPP maximum pensionable earnings: $74,600; employee rate: 5.95%; basic exemption: $3,500.
- CPP2 applies at 4% between $74,600 and $85,000.
- EI maximum insurable earnings: $68,900; employee rate outside Quebec: 1.63%.
- Quebec uses QPP, a 1.30% EI rate and a 0.430% QPIP employee rate.
Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator include every tax credit?
No. It uses common basic employment assumptions. RRSP deductions, pensions, donations, tuition, dependants and other credits are not included.
Can I compare different salaries?
Yes. Enter up to three annual salaries to compare estimated tax, payroll contributions and take-home pay using the same province.
Why can my paycheque differ?
Employers calculate withholding by pay period using CRA or Revenu Québec payroll formulas. Bonuses, timing and year-to-date contributions can change an individual paycheque.
